2027 Eclipse Calendar: a total solar eclipse over a mountain landscape

There are five eclipses in 2027: two solar and three lunar. The two solar eclipses are the ones that matter most, an annular eclipse on February 6 at 17°38' Aquarius and a total eclipse on August 2 at 9°55' Leo. All three lunar eclipses are faint penumbral ones. This page lists every date, time and degree, and shows which houses of your chart the 2027 eclipses activate.

The lunar nodes across traditions

Eclipse geometry depends on the Moon’s relationship to its orbital nodes. Indian astrology calls the ascending node Rahu and the descending node Ketu. Our Rahu and Ketu comparison guide separates that shared astronomy from each tradition’s interpretations. Use the house-finder tools for personal chart questions; a lunar-calendar explorer does not determine eclipse observance rules.

The times are the exact new moon or full moon, which is the moment astrologers use for the chart. The next eclipses after these are a partial lunar eclipse on January 12, 2028 and an annular solar eclipse on January 26, 2028.

For the current year, see the 2026 eclipse calendar.

Phase time, eclipse maximum and visibility

The table gives the new/full Moon instant, which is the time used for the zodiac degree in this guide. It is not greatest eclipse, first contact, or the time of maximum eclipse at your location. Phase times follow the US Naval Observatory’s 2027 data; tropical positions were calculated with Natal Echo’s astronomical engine at the published minute and rounded to the nearest arcminute.

Eclipse types, dates, broad visibility regions and the maximum solar-eclipse durations were checked against NASA’s solar catalogue and lunar catalogue. NASA’s decade tables label their greatest-eclipse times TD, a different time scale; those numbers must not be relabelled as UTC. For observing, follow the event map and local contact times linked from NASA, rather than the astrology chart time in our table.

The rising-sign table below is a whole-sign approximation. The Eclipse House Finder uses your recorded birth time and actual Placidus cusps, so its result can differ. Interpretive themes do not establish what will happen to an individual.

The Story of the 2027 Eclipses

Eclipses happen near the lunar nodes, the two points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's. The North Node moved into Aquarius and the South Node into Leo in July 2026, and they stay there throughout 2027. So this is the main year of the Aquarius and Leo eclipse cycle that began with the total solar eclipse in Leo on August 12, 2026.

The axis has a clear theme. Leo is the self: the heart, pride, creativity, what you do for the joy of it and what you want to be seen for. Aquarius is the group: friends, communities, causes, the future and your place among other people. With the North Node in Aquarius, the direction of growth through 2027 is toward the wider circle. With the South Node in Leo, the thing being released is the need to be at the centre of it.

Two details make 2027 stand out:

  • Two total solar eclipses in Leo, a year apart. August 12, 2026 fell at 20°02' Leo. August 2, 2027 falls at 9°55' Leo. Anyone with planets in the first two thirds of the fixed signs feels both.
  • Solar eclipses carry the year. The lunar eclipses of 2027 are all penumbral, which means the Moon only passes through the pale outer edge of the Earth's shadow. The emphasis is on new starts, more than on dramatic endings.

Five turning points: observing a lunar eclipse over the countryside

February 6, 2027: Annular Solar Eclipse in Aquarius

  • Exact new moon: 15:56 UTC, at 17°38' Aquarius. That is 7:56 AM PST, 10:56 AM EST, 3:56 PM in London and 4:56 PM in Berlin and Stockholm.
  • Type: Annular. The Moon is too far from the Earth to cover the Sun completely, so a ring of sunlight remains. At its greatest the ring lasts close to eight minutes.
  • Where it is seen: The annular path crosses Chile, Argentina and the Atlantic. The broader partial-eclipse region includes South America, Antarctica, and western and southern Africa.
  • Node: North Node, about three degrees away.

A solar eclipse is a new moon with more weight, and one near the North Node points forward. In Aquarius it favours joining, building and committing to something larger than yourself: a team, a cause, a field of study, a group of friends that actually suits who you are now. It can also bring a clean break from a circle you have outgrown. Decisions around this date tend to shape the following six months, up to the August eclipse on the other side of the axis.

Most affected: planets or angles from about 14° to 21° of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio, and birthdays within a few days of February 6, May 8, August 10 and November 10.

February 20, 2027: Penumbral Lunar Eclipse in Virgo

  • Exact full moon: 23:23 UTC, at 2°05' Virgo. That is 3:23 PM PST and 6:23 PM EST on February 20, and 12:23 AM on February 21 in Berlin and Stockholm.
  • Type: Penumbral. The Moon dims slightly and takes on a grey shading, most noticeable around the middle of the eclipse.
  • Where it is seen: The Americas, Europe, Africa and western Asia.

This is the Snow Moon, with the Sun in the first degrees of Pisces. A lunar eclipse is a full moon that closes something. In Virgo the subject is the daily machinery of life: health routines, workload, the habit of fixing everything for everyone. Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, is retrograde at the time, so the release comes through review. Notice which duties you took on by default and which of them can be handed back. The Mercury retrograde 2027 dates cover that retrograde.

Most affected: planets or angles from about 0° to 5° of Virgo, Pisces, Gemini and Sagittarius.

July 18, 2027: A Very Slight Penumbral Eclipse in Capricorn

  • Exact full moon: 15:45 UTC, at 25°49' Capricorn. That is 11:45 AM EDT and 4:45 PM in London.
  • Type: Penumbral, and only just. The Moon barely touches the edge of the Earth's outer shadow, and nothing can be seen.

Astronomical lists count this as an eclipse. Many astrologers treat it as a strong full moon instead, because the penumbral contact is extremely small. Either way it is the Buck Moon, and it opens the summer eclipse season. Capricorn full moons bring career, responsibility and long-term plans to a head, with the Sun in Cancer asking what all the effort is for.

Most affected: planets or angles from about 23° to 28° of Capricorn, Cancer, Aries and Libra.

August 2, 2027: Total Solar Eclipse in Leo

  • Exact new moon: 10:05 UTC, at 9°55' Leo. That is 3:05 AM PDT, 6:05 AM EDT, 11:05 AM in London and 12:05 PM in Berlin and Stockholm.
  • Type: Total. The Moon is near its closest point to the Earth and covers the Sun completely for up to 6 minutes and 23 seconds.
  • Where it is seen: The path of totality crosses the Strait of Gibraltar and the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, runs the length of North Africa, passes over the Nile valley near Luxor at its longest, and continues across the Red Sea and the south of the Arabian Peninsula. Europe, Africa and western Asia see a partial eclipse.
  • Node: South Node, less than two degrees away.

This is the headline event of the year, in astronomy and in astrology. A total solar eclipse in Leo is a reset of identity: what you create, how you lead, what you are proud of and how you want to be loved. Because it falls on the South Node, the new start comes by letting something go first. An old role, an old stage, a way of seeking approval that no longer works. What begins here tends to be simpler and more sincere than what it replaces.

It also lands a week after Jupiter leaves Leo for Virgo on July 26, 2027. The year of large gestures gives way to a quieter question about what is actually worth doing well.

Most affected: planets or angles from about 7° to 13° of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus and Scorpio, and birthdays within a few days of August 2, January 30, April 30 and November 2.

August 17, 2027: Penumbral Lunar Eclipse in Aquarius

  • Exact full moon: 07:29 UTC, at 24°12' Aquarius. That is 12:29 AM PDT, 3:29 AM EDT and 8:29 AM in London.
  • Type: Penumbral.
  • Where it is seen: The Americas and the Pacific.

The Sturgeon Moon closes the season. The Sun is in Leo and the Moon is in Aquarius, so the question is the balance between the two: how much of your life is given to other people's plans, and how much to your own. Something that began at the February 6 solar eclipse in Aquarius reaches a result now.

Most affected: planets or angles from about 22° to 27° of Aquarius, Leo, Taurus and Scorpio.

Which Houses Do the 2027 Eclipses Activate?

Your rising sign shows the two houses the Aquarius and Leo eclipses fall in. The Aquarius house is where something new is being built in 2027. The Leo house is where something is being reset or released.

How to Work With an Eclipse

  • Do less in the days around it. Eclipses speed things up without being asked to. Rest more than you push.
  • Watch what arrives and what leaves. News, offers and endings close to an eclipse are worth taking seriously.
  • Wait a few days before big decisions. The picture is usually clearer a week later.
  • Think in six-month chapters. A solar eclipse opens a story that the eclipses half a year later develop.
  • Look back 19 years. Eclipses return to nearly the same degrees every 19 years. The eclipses of February and August 2008 fell at 17° Aquarius and 9° Leo, and can show what these degrees mean in your life.
